For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Evan Stone and I am currently a Technical Recruiter at TEKsystems and I'm a former Senior Account Manager, Premium Ticket Sales with the NBA G-League, Stockton Kings. I started my journey in sports almost exactly three years ago with the Sacramento Kings in their inside sales program, so I have the unique experience of working in the NBA and the G-League, and now working outside of sports.

"If there is one thing that I know will clear my mind and keep me sharp and fresh, it’s physical movement."

Today I want to talk about the benefits of staying active while working from home. I am sure you have read many articles about ways to cope with the current situation both in your personal and professional life. So, when I decided to write something, I didn’t want to write about trying to keep a smile on my face and to always think positive thoughts. Simply because I know that doesn’t work for everybody as we are all wired differently. So, I decided to write about the health benefits of exercise during a time like this.

We are all experiencing something we've never had to deal with before, and I know for myself being cooped up in my house all day isn’t my personal idea of a fun time. I am an extrovert by nature, so I knew I had to stay consistent with working out. If there is one thing that I know will clear my mind and keep me sharp and fresh, it’s physical movement. So below I’m going to list out some easy and simple exercises that you can also do to help clear your mind and keep yourself sharp during COVID-19 times.

I know that many of you are already physically active, so my challenge to you is to either get someone you know to start working out or to get yourself back into the groove. I know the day-to-day grind of working in sports can throw you off at times (I know it has for me in the past!).

So, here is a list of few things I have been doing to stay sharp:

  • -Jumping jacks (warmup)

  • -High knees (warmup)

  • -15-minute jog around my neighborhood OR 30-minute walk

  • -Pushups

  • -Body weight squats

  • -Mountain climbers

  • -Leg raises

  • -Plank

  • -Lunges

  • -Burpees

I typically give myself one day to rest, which for me is usually Saturday or Sunday, but it can be whatever day(s) of the week you want. As for the exercises, those are just a few of the things you can do without any kind of workout equipment. If you are at the beginning of your workout journey, you can modify any one of those exercises to fit your abilities, such as doing pushups from your knees.

Again, I hope this can either inspire you to start moving again or help you get someone you know to start. I can guarantee you won’t be mad that you did!
